JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- Participate as a staff member in the Department of Campus Programming and assist
in the overall operation of the department;
- Attend the weekly Board of Director meetings and the monthly SPB Committee
meetings;
- Meet regularly with the Director and the Coordinator for Student Affairs Programs (weekly staff meetings);
- Work directly with the Student Programming Board;
- Assist in the execution of all events sponsored by the SPB and DCP (developing,
planning, budgeting, public relations, marketing and promotion of events; on-site
supervision and compliance with policies and assist in problem resolution);
- Present at all SPB events;
- Examples of Events and Programs: Welcome Week, Major Concerts and Union Unpluggeds, Homecoming Week and Parade, Miss University Pageant, Parade of Beauties, Christmas Tree Lighting, Ole Miss Idol, and other sponsored programs and services
- Assist in the coordination of the marketing of specific programming events
- design copy for newspaper advertisements, posters, and brochures
- design fliers and write press releases to promote event
- coordinate the distribution of advertising materials on-and-off- campus
- maintain and update website as needed
- organize the SPB scrapbook
- responsible for the digital camera and all pictures taken at events
- Assist in the coordination of the SPB officer retreats and workshops,
Attend and assist in preparing selected students for regional and national NACA
Conferences (at the discretion of the Director of Campus Programming);
- Conduct assessments and analysis of programs sponsored by the SPB and DCP;
- Assist and collaborate on special projects in the Division of Student Affairs;
- Represent the Department of Campus Programming at various university functions;
- Submit a detailed weekly report to the Director of Campus Programming;
- Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Working as a member of the Campus Programming team, the graduate assistant will assist with campuswide programming, student leadership training, and general office operation. Graduate assistants will have the opportunity to work directly with student leaders and University administrators to continue to improve the quality and quantity of programming on campus. Applicants must possess a Bachelor’s Degree and must be in one of the following graduate programs at The University of Mississippi: higher education, exercise science and leisure management, educational psychology, or other related fields. Applicants must also be in or have also demonstrated successful and significant involvement in programming and /or student activities. Candidates should possess the maturity, leadership and interpersonal skills, which will promote success in the profession. Candidates must be able to relate well to people in a college environment, show initiative, have a conscientious attitude, be organized and have excellent communication skills. Graduate assistants will work 20 hours per week, including some night and weekend hours.
